Why Retag? Overview of the Process.

It happens. Your LDAR program falls in disarray. A large capital project installs a load of new equipment. Tags fall off, either due to a turnaround, maintenance work, or due to wear and tear. You trigger a new regulation which requires new components or connectors to be added to your inventory. Or an audit indicates you may have substantial overlooked components. Or your technicians report that tag numbering is in disarray, leading to inefficient routine monitoring. At the end of the day - you decide you should "fix" the inventory.

What does this involve? A typical LDAR retag project is comprised of four main parts: P&ID highlighting to determine regulatory applicability. Field flagging to indicate which process lines in the process unit need to be tagged and documented. Field tagging to hang physical tags on each regulated component on the flagged lines. And finally, field documentation to populate the LDAR database with the new information pertaining to the tagged components. 

LDAR retags are one of the most costly LDAR program costs with a lot of moving parts - and often a lot of additional resources are involved. Thus, if you're going to spend the time, effort, and cost - you should use a team that is experienced and well-equipped to tackle each aspect of these complicated projects.

Intelligent P&IDs eliminate much manual (and error prone) data entry, as over 80% of the information that must be collected during a retag is automatically populated using intelligent P&IDs prepared by Ei - eliminating the time-consuming process of manually transcribing P&ID data to flagging cards during the flagging phase. Additionally, intelligent P&IDs allow for industry-leading project tracking, enhanced QA/QC and compliance assurance, and produce industry-leading project deliverables including P&IDs with LDAR tag annotations.

Standard P&ID Driven Retag

With Ei Projects, standard highlighted P&IDs are "electronicized" so that all data collected during the retag, including field markups and notes, are recorded electronically. All field markups can be easily combined, analyzed, and shared between members of the project team - maximizing project efficiency and retag accuracy.

We provide the A-team of inventory experts to execute all phases of the project, and empower them with Ei's tools and expert-level support. When we turn-key the project, we work together without friction allowing us to deliver these projects as efficiently as possible. We leverage all of the tools out there to enhance productivity, communication, and compliance - and leverage quality controls to minimize re-work and maximize compliance.

Maximize Compliance, Efficiency - Merging Tag Histories

The tools our software our field team uses to retag components not only collects the new tag number, but collects the old tag number - and essential data point that is used to automatically merge the tag history to the new component. Without this, any newly added tag may appear to be a historically overlooked component - potentially drawing regulatory scrutiny. We work to document valid, accurate old tag numbers for every retagged component, and work to document the reasons for inventory additions and removals - invaluable information for regulatory reporting season. 


We break QA/QC into two parts, foremost quality control to maximize data quality, and quality assurance to validate and review collected data:

Quality Control The tools our team uses are built around quality control: we program the project-specific documentation SOP into custom software checks and balances that either prevents bad data from being collected, or warns the technician if potentially incorrect data is attempting to be collected. 

Quality Assurance - All data that we collect is thoroughly analyzed by our industry-leading software tools and our team of experts to maximize compliance and consistency after the project. When we use intelligent P&IDs, we ensure every LDAR-applicable component on the P&ID has been documented - an unprecedented level of quality assurance.
